PART 1: LOCATION (best areas to stay in Rome)
I rated 6 most visited areas in Rome from 1 to 10 *according to my opinion of an airbnb owner (have a look at my airbnb here) and local. Save and travel safe!
City center (9/10) - Trevi, Pantheon, Piazza Navona - historical centre has a special Roman vibe that no other area in the city does. Another advantage is that you can walk everywhere without using public transport (that sucks in Rome!). Look up for for typical apartments with classic interiors, wooden ceilings and cute balconies. PS be sure to check if there’s an elevator in the building! Many historical buildings don’t have them.
Vatican (8/10) - great for families, as the apartments are usually new and spacious in this area. Ideal as well for pilgrims or for those who consider visiting Vatican Museums and Saint Peter’s as a priority.
Prati (9/10) - stylish area, houses built in late 19-beginning of 20th century. Many businessmen, bank workers and TV presenters live here. It’s located between Vatican and the city center (max 15 min walk to both of them). A perfect solution for those who want to experience Rome as locals. Bonus: you’ll find many creative restaurants and bars here.
Colosseum (7/10) - nice area that is getting more and more popular with years. Few years ago there were only tourist restaurants and bars around.
Trastevere (6/10) - very famous even though it’s not my favourite one. The apartments are usually old, cold and very small. Most of the streets in this area are very noisy and crowded. Recommended only for bunch of friends who want to party.
Termini (4/10) - not very safe in the evening, crowded and dirty. Book here only if you have a train the next day and you don’t want to organise a transfer.
