📍What to visit:
✔️ Registan • the heart of the ancient city of Samarkand of the Timurid Empire, now in Uzbekistan. The name Registan means "sandy place" or "desert" in Persian. Visit to see three majestic medieval universities ("madrassas") - Ulugbek madrasah, Sherdor madrasah and Tilla-Kori madrasah.
✔️ Bibi-Khanym Mosque • a masterpiece of the Timurid Renaissance, was built by Timur for his wife Saray Mulk Khanym (Bibi Khanym was her nickname meaning 'senior princess').
✔️ Shah-i-Zinda (meaning "The living king") is the complex of mausoleums of 14-15th centuries. The legend says that Qutham ibn Abbas, a cousin of the Prophet Muhammad, is buried here. He came to Samarkand with the Arab invasion in the 7th century to preach Islam.
✔️ Gur-e-Amir • is Persian for "Tomb of the King". This architectural complex with its azure dome contains the tombs of Tamerlane - the famous Turco-Mongol conqueror Timur
✔️ Silk carpet factory “Hudjum” - taking a free tour, you can enjoy seeing how the carpets are made and the weaving process. Be careful, the tour ends up in an amazing store and you just can’t leave without buying something.
